The anime and gaming community has truly lost a real one. Atsuko Tanaka, the renowned voice artist from Japan has passed away August 20, 2024. She was 61 years of age.
Tanaka’s resume,, as you may know, reads like a “best characters of all time” list.
She is infamous for providing her iconic vocals to the beloved Motoko Kasanagi aka the Major in Ghost In The Shell as well as other anime series and projects like Naruto (as Konan) Fate/Stay Night (as Caster), JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (as Lisa Lisa), Black Butler (as Francis Midford), Frieren (as The Great Mage), and so much more.
It was not just anime either. Gaming was her backyard, with here lending her voicing talents to Bayonetta and the Japanese voice dub of Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider franchise.
Her son, also a voice actor, unveiled the news of her passing, succumbing to an undisclosed illness she had been battling for nearly a year.
Her career spanned my genres and decades, her voice lending life to beloved and cherished characters that registered with fans in Japan and globally.
Heart felt condolences to Tanaka’s son, family and friends for their loss.
