Star Wars has regained some footing with much thanks to their TV excursions with the likes of The Mandalorian, Andor and The Book of Boba Fett. Now the courage to re-enter the cinematic flurry has been reignited as Star Wars has plans to push forward not one, but three movies into production. These three movies are not a trilogy but individual, standalone features.

Details on the plots? Well, one film will be directed by James Mangold, which will take place during the embryonic stage of the Jedi order. The Dave Fillion directed feature however will focus on the New Republic, with interconnectivity put forward by The Mandalorian, Ahsoka and other Disney Plus series. Essentially, closing out those chapters.

The third film will delight many Rey fans, as it is set delve into the aftermath of Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker. Daisy Ridley is set to return to playing her titular character as she explores the galaxy in a bid to restore and rebuild a Jedi Order. The film has pegged Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy as director.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had this to say about the news:

As you can see by all the television we’ve been doing, we’re exploring a lot of different storylines. This really spawns from what George Lucas said years ago, that he created Star Wars to move forward and backward along a mythological timeline. Now we’re looking to broaden that timeline, building a rich future, expanding upon the present, going deep into the past to tell our stories, and we’re thrilled to be working with some of the best and most passionate filmmakers on projects that will span the past, the present, and the future.

With the likes of Solo bruising the ego, credibility and profits, it seems Lucasfilm are taking a more measured approach, with three separate films that do not need to hinge on the others’ success. A smart play. But what do you guys think?
