Ethan Hawke is slated to join actor Oscar Isaac in the forthcoming Marvel Studios’ Disney+ Series Moon Knight. Some of this may come as a slight surprise as Ethan Hawke has been on record making distinctions between what constitutes great cinema versus superhero movies. And even the best of superhero movies he constituted as ‘fine superhero movies’, citing Logan and The Dark Knight.
But now it seems the Training Day actor has made somewhat of a rightabout turn in deciding to be part of the most superhero movie-churning franchise of all – Marvel. And his reason? Well, you can chalk it up to Oscar Isaac.
Hawke has this to say:
A lot of it is Oscar, to me, to be honest with you. I find him to be a very exciting player in my field. I like what he’s doing with his life. He reminds me of the actors, when I first arrived at New York, that I looked up to. Oscar’s younger than me, and I like the way he carries himself, and I like the way he thinks. And in general, good things happen when you’re in the room with people that you like the way they think, right?
In any case, Disney wins. And hopefully Hawke’s involvement hints at a more thoughtful, mature series and will help elevate the series even more so alongside Oscar Isaac.
