Borderlands goes big with their latest casting confirmation. The coming movie based on the Gearbox Software franchise Borderlands has cast comedian and actor Kevin Hart to star as Roland.
The Roland character in Borderlands movie is likely to have a more extended shelf life than the character in the coming movie, given the casting of Hart and his drawing power and all the stock people put in his level of celebrity.
Many have already come out to air their thoughts and concerns that the casting was not the best of decisions. In all honesty, it is what is. Hart draws crowds. Borderlands, being a video game movie, needs that. Especially in the current state of Covid-19 and its effect on the movie industry. And we a sure the ability to make a side character valuable in the film, spurring on spin-offs and side projects in both the film and gaming space is not something we would think would be lost on Gearbox and the execs.
The Borderlands movie is in development with Lionsgate and Arad Productions, and the director is set to make an appearance Gearbox Main Theater Show at PAX East on February 27 to discuss more about the goings-on of the coming movie.
Craig Mazin is on as screenwriter.
