Deadpool, arguably, might be comic artist Rob Liefeld’s bread and butter, particular following the frenzy stirred in the most recent Deadpool and Deadpool 2 movies. Even as such, the Liefeld has his eyes set on tackling a whole new franchise – G.I. Joe. In particular, the prolific character Snake Eyes will be getting his own comic series which will see the prolific artist Liefeld team up with Hasbro and IDW Publishing.

The name of the series is Snake Eyes: Deadgame, and Liefeld will serve as both writer and artist on the G.I. Joe comic series. Albeit, thought the character is infamous for not speaking an iota, we’re sure other character will have speaking roles.

Rob Liefeld spoke on how chuffed he was to be penning the series:

Two words: ‘bucket list’. One more word: ‘icon’. Snake Eyes is Wolverine, Deadpool and Spider-Man rolled into one amazing character for an entire generation of fans that thrilled to his adventures in comics and cartoons and hung on his every toy release!”

And that he is. Snake Eyes was the mysterious silent ninja commando known for his stealth with an all-black wardrobe to match. He first debuted in the 1980s as part of Hasbro and Marvel Comics’ relaunch of the G.I. Joe toy line, which was dubbed G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.

IDW president and publisher/chief creative officer Chris Ryall also spoke on the news:

The high-octane, adrenaline-fueled action and adventure Rob brings to every comic he creates is a perfect fit for Snake Eyes, and we’re all as excited as you are to see him really cut loose on the pages of this very special G.I. Joe series!”

Oh, and there is an actual Snake Eyes movie in development, with Red director Robert Schwentke and The Huntsman: Winter’s War writer Evan Spiliotopoulos. More as things develop on that.

Snake Eyes: Deadgame is set to debut on all comic book shelves + digitally in early 2020.
