The trajectory of Disney steadily blazes forward with the announcment of new films on the way under the Lucasfilm branch for the Star Wars franchise.
And when it comes to narrative, it seems Lucasfilm has struck proverbial gold with the talent they’ve announced to be on board.
It has been announced that Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been pegged to write & produce a new series of Star Wars films. It is noted that these series of films will be separate from the Skywalker Saga, as well as and the recently announced Star Wars trilogy.
Lucasfilm’s President Kathleen Kennedy had this to say about the news:
David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting
That’s all fine and dandy Kathleen. Hopefully we don’t have any quick, sloppy transitions of power like we saw in The Last Jedi.
And the writing duo released a joint statement. And undoubtedly it shows they’re over the proverbial moon:
In the summer of 1977 we travelled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since. We are honoured by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete
Hopefully, it’s not too daunting a task in the end. As it all starts with the right script.
More as things develop.
