He’ll star alongside Scarlett Johansson who is set to play Major Motoko Kusanagiin the live-action film. Pilou Asbaek has also been cast to play Batou.

So who will Pitt be playing? The Laughing Man, THR reports. This character was not a part of the feature anime but featured years later in the Ghost in the Shell anime series GITS: Stand Alone Complex. He’s meant to be an illusive, super-skilled hacker, upholding a set of ideals that likens itself to Anonymous.

Ghost in the Shell is being directed by Rupert Sanders, from a script by Jonathan Herman. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing.
