To be honest this should come to us as absolutely no surprise, as in universes of infinite possibilities, this would be the one true constant. Netflix and Marvel, in their infinite wisdom, listened in on our hopes and dreams for a Netflix series of The Punisher, and by golly they answered. The Punisher is set to have his own titular Netflix series with actor Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle.
And yes, fans can expect brutality with a ‘hard R’ rating.
A vigilante totting guns in 2015, according to executive producer Doug Petrie is “tricky shit”, given the 2nd Amendment nut-town America is at the moment. But he says though, Frank Castle will be “taking lethal justice into [his] own hands”, the show would “force people to second-guess themselves [in their support of The Punisher and by extension vigilante justice].
We haven’t even really seen Bernthal in action but judging from the trailer and images , things look super-promising. So this Marvel spin-off is definitely warranted and should do a world of good like the Marvel + Netflix ensemble did for Daredevil.
The proposed series is currently in development. This will make The Punisher the sixth series headlining the Marvel / Netflix roster.
More news on this as things develop for sure.
“Dude! Punisher about to dole out some serious punishment. Capital idea! What do you guys think of The Punisher becoming a Netflix series? Should they be looking to put effort in solidifying Marvel’s Knights in the cinema rather than in serial shows?
