As far as technological enhancements go, Sony has been at the forefront of missed opportunities. The versatility and wide-availability of the VHS versus the rigidity of their betamax. DVDs vs their BluRays at one point. But it seems Sony is slowly becoming aware that the longevity of their technological advancements especially as it pertains to audio-visual interactive entertainment is to reach people on many platforms and interfaces as possible. Ergo, the VR tech.

Of course as the big announcement broke over Sony’s cheapest VR gear to hit the market to date, it seems the company has been mulling over the idea of making the technology available for Windows PC / PC gamers, not just the Playstation 4 gamers.

The VR currently requires a PlayStation 4 to operate, but however Sony Computer Entertainment executive vice president Masayasu Ito apparently has made ta statement that the console shares similar “internal parts” to a PC.

We’re not sure how Microsoft would feel about that, especially with Epic Games creator Tim Sweeney damning the monopoly stance Microsoft seems gearing itself towards.

Having that said, Sony has a little franchise self-contained eco-system going as it is; the price for the VR ($399) doesn’t include the required PlayStation Camera peripheral, which is used for positional tracking.

Will Playstation make the plunge, essentially facilitating the breaking down of gaming walls that could see a wider community of gamers coming together through the cross-pollination of gamer software and hardware?
