The action pixel. @theactionpixelAfter all the rumours, and rumours of rumours, Marvel and Sony seemed to have found level ground. It is confirmed by Marvel that Spider-Man, for the first time, will be making an appearance in the Marvel Universe.

This is big news, as this venture means Marvel Studios will be working in tandem with Sony on producing major crossover films.

Under the agreement betwixt Marvel and Sony, Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel Film (Captain America 3: Civil War anyone!?) Sony will then go on to release another instalment in the Spider-Man franchise come July 28th 2017. The Spidey film will still ultimately be under the creative and distribution control of Sony, but the Spider-Man film will be co-produced by Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Sony’s Amy Pascal.

CEO Bob Iger of Walt Disney (who owns Marvel) commented on the collaboration:

Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s great characters, beloved around the world. We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building.

So can we expect a Fantastic Four / X-Men crossover film in conjunction with Fox anytime soon? Wishful thinking.
