james wan . Aquaman. the action pixel. @theactionpixelJames Wan, who is up to direct, among many things and stuff, DC Comics + Warner Bros. Pictures’ Aquaman, went on the record on an E! interview about the Ruler of Atlantis, Amber Heard‘s character Mera and their role in Justice League.

Here’s what he had to say about the first look at Amber Heard’s Mera, the mother of Jason Momoa‘s Arthur Curry:

I think it’s super cool. I think Amber and Jason Momoa, in their moments in Justice League, [are] going to give the rest of the world a flavour of what their own standalone movie could be. And that is just scratching the surface of what I plan to do.

And as for what to expect come Aquaman’s narrative, James Wan, as forthcoming as you can imagine he could get at this point, offers a little insight:

I kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story. It’s a quest story potentially in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing the Stone.

Justice League is set for cinematic release on November 17th 2017

Aquaman is set to appear in cinemas come July 27th 2018
