Alfre Woodard set to be a villain in Marvel’s Luke Cage

As it turns out, Netflix’s Luke Cage may have discovered a new villain for the upcoming series.

According to Deadline, Alfre Woodard is set to star as villain Minetta, who surely will be giving Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, the pain. Even if he is virtually indestructible.

Her character is described as a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life, named Minetta. Closest character she translates to in the Marvel Universe is the gangleader and drug kingpin Black Mariah; whose earlier depictions border on blaxploitation-y / offensive characterisations of black people.

She is a formidable enemy not only to Luke Cage, but also Iron Fist. And as you know both Iron Fist and Luke Cage are headlining in the coming Marvel / Netflix series roster, and likely to be a connecting element on the lead up to The Defenders series.
