More news comes from the Dreamworks camp regarding their live-action adaptation of manga / anime franchise Ghost In The Shell. It seems they have cast actor Takeshi “Beat” Kitano to star as Daisuke Aramaki, who is chief of Public Security Section 9 and in charge of Major (played by Scarlett Johansson) and her team.

Other casting includes Pilou Asbæk as Batou and more recently Michael Pitt as “The Laughing Man”.

This makes Kitano actually the first prominent Japanese actor to be cast in the adaptation. Which I guess someone somewhere gets brownie points for that. Albeit for a role that may not be as much in the foreground compared to others. And considering the manga surrounds a counter-cyberterrorist organisation, you know, in neo-Japan, we guess it’s as good as we’re gonna get.

Ghost in the Shell is being directed by Rupert Sanders, from a script by Jonathan Herman. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing.

Ghost in the Shell opens March 31st 2017
