It looks like we are set to get a blast from the past with news coming down from Ghostbusters‘ creator and caretaker Ivan Reitman.

We knew that Sony had an animated Ghostbuster feature in the works. But speaking with io9, Reitman reveals that there are more Ghostbusters projects on the way, and fans can expect an animated feature before another live-action film:

We jumped into an animated film [after the last movie] and we are developing live-action films. I want to bring all these stories together as a universe that makes sense within itself. Part of my job right now is to do that.

The animated feature will follow closely the concept of the original film and is slated to enter cinemas in either 2019 or 2020.

Nevermind all the vitriol Feig’s Ghostbusters got (which for the most part was unwarranted), Reitman is positive the Ghostbusters brand is stronger than ever, and there also seems to be particular interest in going into VR:

I think Ghostbusters is this wonderful [intellectual property] because it has so many storytelling opportunities. And it’s a particularly good one for VR.

More as things develop.
