Just think, Ghost in The Shell is 25+ years old. And with fans getting their fix by recreating opening sequences in real life and pressing repeat on the DVD players, we have been anointed with the Ghost In The Shell: Arise trailer which played at London Comic Con:

Already released Stateside (Border 1 and 2), UK fans will have to wait a while to get their hands on Arise, as of course it has to do its Japan thing, then the US English-dubbed thing, then make it to the third rung on the ‘what’s-new’ ladder which is where the UK resides.

Here’s FUNimation’s plot breakdown of the two of four part cyberpunk-classic anime episodes:

Border 1: Ghost Pain
Set against a backdrop of international arms dealers, exploding cyborgs, and murdered prostitutes, this origins story plays out with a futuristic flair for the destructive. When cyborg hacker Motoko Kusanagi is hired to investigate a devastating bombing, she must fight her way through a maze of phantom memories to unlock her mysterious past – and track down the evil mastermind behind the attacks.

Border 2: Ghost Whispers
Witness the formation of the legendary Public Security Section 9. When a clandestine organization hacks every car in the city, Kusanagi recruits a lethal team of cyber operatives that includes a badass brawler with Special Forces training, an explosives expert, a technology specialist, and a chain-smoking jack-of-all-trades with a sordid past. Together this ruthless gang of enforcers sets out to clamp down on the chaos and make the city safe again.

Boasting intricate narrative and bold, stunning visuals and effects, it seems Motoko is back in the game without missing a proverbial heartbeat. Your Ghosts whispering. And it’s saying your awesome.

We can’t wait to get our hands on this one.
